When you press the shutter button of your camera, you introduce a bit of camera shake, which in turn can create a blurry image. Next to using your tripod, a cable release is a very important accessory. Over the years I have tried many brands, from no-name to camera brand specific (think Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax). Other than spending a bunch more money, I have not had an issue with the no-name releases and neither have my students. Currently I like 2 brands, Pixel and Foto&Tech. You do need to get the version which will work on your specific camera. Contact me if you have questions. The PIXEL RC-201/DC2 Wired Shutter Release Control for Nikon can be found here LINK. The PIXEL RC-201/N3 Wired Shutter Release Control for Canon can be found here LINK. The Foto&Tech Wired Shutter Release Control for Nikon can be found here LINK. Please note: you need to select the correct model for your Nikon model. The connection is not always the same. And the Foto&Tech Wired Shutter Release Control for Canon can be found here LINK.
A 5-in-1 reflector is a great tool for helping to shape light. The diffusion panel comes with zippered, reversible covers that can create black, white, silver, or gold surfaces, allowing you to deepen shadows, a translucent material in the middle diffuses harsh sunlight to create a flattering, soft light, or you can use the reflective sides to kick light back to fill in shadows or add warmth. I use the NEEWER brand. No need to spend big money on a name brand, these really work! The NEEWER 5-in-1 Light Reflector / Diffuser comes in many different sizes: I suggest you start with the 32" LINK; and later if you find you need a larger one, the 43" is the one to get LINK.
Your computer may have a card reader slot. But did you know that your computer may not be able to read that new memory card you purchased. Technology keeps changing, but computer hardware does not. I recommend purchasing an external card reader. The Anker 2-in-1 USB 3.0 SD Card Reader one one I have used for years. It is inexpensive, and it works really well. Click here to purchase LINK.
If you need a memory card reader which can attach via your computer's USB-C port, I suggest the UGREEN Micro SD Card Reader USB-C / USB 3.0 Memory Card Reader. Click here to purchase LINK.
